Cloud migration, repatriation and hybrid infrastructure

Put each workload where it makes sense to run.

Wise IT helps businesses move into the cloud, return selected workloads to owned or colocated infrastructure and build hybrid environments. The work starts with what each system needs and who will operate it after the move.

  • Workload-by-workload decisions
  • Migration in either direction
  • Operations included in the design

Workload placement

Public cloud, colocated infrastructure and on-premises systems each solve different problems.

A single company may need all three. We compare the practical demands of each workload, document the tradeoffs and put migrations in an order the business can support.

CA

Cloud adoption

Prepare applications, data and teams for public cloud or cloud software. Define the target environment, dependencies, access, connectivity, recovery and operating responsibilities before moving production work.

WP

Workload placement

Compare cost, performance, latency, data movement, licensing, security, recovery and available staff. Place each workload according to its requirements instead of applying one answer to the whole environment.

CR

Cloud repatriation

Move selected workloads from public cloud to owned or colocated infrastructure. The plan covers the destination platform, data transfer, cutover, testing, rollback and the team that will maintain it.

HY

Hybrid infrastructure

Connect cloud and private systems with clear boundaries for identity, networking, data, management and recovery. Document which side owns each dependency and how the environment is monitored.

Plan the environment around the workload

Account for the systems that make the migration possible.

The destination is only one part of the work. A usable plan includes the services, controls and operating knowledge around it.

ID

Identity and access

Map users, service accounts, administrative access, authentication dependencies and the process for granting and removing access.

NW

Network and connectivity

Plan addressing, routing, name services, firewalls, remote access, carrier capacity and the paths users and connected systems will take.

DT

Data and storage

Understand where data lives, how quickly it changes, what must move, how long transfer will take and what needs to remain available during the change.

Data center, virtualization and storage
SE

Security and governance

Set administrative boundaries, logging, data handling, vulnerability work and exception ownership for the destination environment.

Cybersecurity consulting
RC

Backup and recovery

Define recovery priorities, backup locations, restore procedures and the dependencies required to make restored systems useful.

Continuity and recovery planning
OP

Operations and support

Agree on monitoring, patching, capacity, escalation, documentation, vendor responsibilities and who responds when a service fails.

Platforms and operating environments

Work across the boundary between cloud and owned systems.

Wise IT can help compare and connect public cloud, private cloud, SaaS, virtualization and conventional server environments. Product choices follow the workload and operating requirements.

Platform experience

  • Public cloud: AWS, Azure, GCP and Oracle Cloud
  • Cloud productivity and identity: Microsoft 365
  • Private cloud and owned infrastructure: OpenStack and company-managed systems
  • Server operating environments: Windows and Linux
  • Virtualized infrastructure connected across cloud, colocation facilities and local systems

Migration sequence

Make the placement decision before building the move.

Discovery and testing reduce the chance that a hidden dependency appears during cutover. The sequence can be used for a move into cloud, a repatriation project or a hybrid redesign.

  1. Inventory workloads and dependencies

Record applications, data, integrations, identity, network paths, recovery requirements, owners and current costs.

  2. Compare placement options

Test the technical and operating requirements against public cloud, colocated infrastructure, on-premises systems and hybrid designs.

  3. Design and prepare the move

Build the destination, migration order, test plan, change window, communications and rollback criteria.

  4. Move, verify and hand over

Complete the approved migration, test real business use, close gaps and document the environment for the people supporting it.

When to review placement

Revisit the decision when the workload or the business changes.

A platform that fit at the start may become expensive or awkward as usage, licensing, staffing and business requirements change.

Reasons to review a cloud workload

Recurring costs no longer match usage, data transfer costs or constraints disrupt operations, latency affects the work, control requirements have changed or the team is spending too much time around platform limits.

Reasons to keep or expand cloud use

The service fits variable demand, reduces infrastructure work the team does not want to own, provides a managed service the organization relies on or supports people and systems across several locations.

Independent placement advice

Start with the workload and the operating reality.

Share what runs today, where it runs, what is difficult about it and what the business needs to improve. Wise IT can help determine what should move, what should stay and what information is still missing.

Common questions

Cloud migration and repatriation FAQs

These answers cover the questions that usually need to be settled before the scope is agreed.

Q1

What usually triggers a cloud placement review?

Common triggers include an approaching renewal, unpredictable operating cost, performance limits, data-transfer charges, recovery concerns, new compliance obligations or a workload that no longer matches its original design. The decision should use evidence from the actual workload.

Q2

Can Wise IT review the options without leading the migration?

Yes. The engagement can end with a current-state assessment, placement recommendation, decision brief and migration requirements. Your internal team, Wise IT or another provider can then deliver the approved work.

Q3

Does repatriation require moving everything out of public cloud?

A repatriation plan can move one workload or one layer while other services remain in public cloud. Hybrid designs are common when identity, software services, backups or burst capacity still fit there.

Q4

What should be settled before a migration begins?

The plan should name the destination, dependencies, data-transfer method, security controls, validation owner, change window, rollback criteria, support responsibilities and evidence required to close the project.
